Alf Norkko

Research environment: marine

Taxonomic group of interest: algae, crustaceans, fish, molluscs, others

Field of research: biodiversity and ecosystem functioning, community ecology, disturbance ecology, ecosystem services, ecosystem and species monitoring, functional ecology and food webs, human-nature relationships, landscape ecology, population ecology

Anthropogenic impact under investigation: climate change, habitat modifications, invasive species, pollution (including from light and noise), population changes and species decline

My focus is on the understanding of marine ecosystem processes in general and the ecology of seafloor habitats in particular, broadly interested in community ecology, exploring the value of biodiversity and the mechanisms important for its maintenance, and promoting basic science as a solid knowledge base to support decision-making.
