Tiia Luostarinen
Research environment: marine
Taxonomic group of interest: algae, others
Field of research: paleoecology
Anthropogenic impact under investigation: climate change, habitat modifications
My main interests are marine geology, palaeoceanography and climate change. Currently working on a PhD in Arctic paleoceanography with the main focus on biogenic sea ice proxies, mainly diatoms, dinoflagellate cysts and highly branched isoprenoid lipids. I am using both biological and geochemical methods, as well as single cell PCR analysis to improve the knowledge we have on the species commonly associated with ice. In my master studies I focused on reconstructing the sea surface temperatures in the western coast of Svalbard, working with diatom proxies.
